Date night ideas for when you don’t feel like leaving the house

Don't miss a thing

Published on 11/01/2022

As a parent, it can sometimes be a struggle to leave the house after a long day looking after the kids.

Just because you don’t want to go out shouldn’t mean that your romantic life suffers.  Here are 10 amazing date night ideas that you can recreate in the comfort of your own home.

1. Prepare a special dinner

This is the classic go-to when it comes to at-home date nights.   Treat your partner to a lovely home-cooked meal, this could be a recipe that you have never tried before, and a nice bottle of wine for the special night.  You get brownie points if you light some candles and get out the best crockery.

2. Movie night

This is another date night classic.  You may do this every night already, but why not add a little je ne sais quoi? This could range from making your own popcorn, lighting candles, or putting together a charcuterie board.  Make sure that it is tailored to your partner’s likes and preferences.  It lets them know that you are listening to them and want to have a nice evening together.

3. Redecorate your home

Choose some paint, get some brushes, order your favourite takeaway and get to rearranging.  Improving your living space is always a great bonding experience and something that the two of you can take pride in.

4. Take your date outdoors

If you are lucky enough to have a garden or a balcony, then why not take your date outside?  If you are cooking a meal or having a movie night, why not take it out into the fresh air and enjoy being under the stars?  Be sure to make everything special by packing the food in a cute picnic basket and putting your wine into a cooler.

5. Spa day

Surprise your partner after a long day’s work with an at-home spa day.  This could be having an amazing bubble bath together or you could take things to the next level by giving each other massages.  A way to enhance the romantic mood is with massage oils.  Make sure to set the mood by lighting candles and having wine or cocktails.

6. Spend the evening in separate rooms

If you have ever seen the hit show, Love is Blind, then this is a great idea for you.  While this may seem like not your average date night, sometimes it’s easier to talk about topics that you struggle to say face to face.   By sitting in separate rooms, you are able to let your guard down and disclose things that you may only tell someone new on a phone or through an app.  You never know, you might learn something new about each other.

7. Institute a no-touching rule

A way to ramp up the intimacy in a relationship is to avoid touching each other throughout the evening.  With this in mind, try and find other ways of connecting with your partner and teasing each other the entire night.  By spending a couple of hours concentrating on exciting each other without physically touching them, then it’s going to get really hot and steamy when you can finally get your hands on each other.

8. Make cocktails

Rather than going out, challenge yourself to make your favourite cocktails at home.  Not only will this be cheaper in the long run, but it will be a cool trick for when you get together with friends.

9. Recreate your first date

This all depends on what your first date looked like, but this is a great way to show your partner how much she means to you.  This could be anything from recreating the meal that you had, or if you went to a concert – play the music in the living room.   What you need to recreate is the sentiment and the fun that you had.

10. Paint and drink

Why not spend the evening painting with each other?  You don’t have to show off your painting skills to strangers in classes, however, spending time with your partner drinking your favourite wine can be quite fun.  You could choose to get a bit competitive and paint the same image, or you can paint something that comes from the heart.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be a fun night.
