Great list! 55 is my favourite, I felt exactly the same :) Although in his first year he woke up so many times each night that it wasn’t too many hours that I was apart from him!!! #bigfatlinky
I love this! You made me laugh. Our kids are about the same age so I found myself smiling and nodding to the whole thing! Congrats on cracking through the first year. I’m told it’s the hardest. Let’s see!
Yes, how do they know that the identical looking old remote is not the actual TV remote?? Happy birthday, Ted! My youngest is 1 this week, too. & actually she was due today. But she was a bit late. #bigfatlinky
We passed the big first birthday a week ago and I agree with everything. Seriously, what is it about TV remotes?
Happy Birthday Ted and Happy Becoming Parents Day to you guys xx

As it happens, I’m still trying ot leave my house. It’s taken three years. Try as Imight, I just can’t get to the front door. Great list that anyone with kids can relate to. By the way, Calpol….have you tried the syringes they now come with? Genius! Simply shoot the stuff into the side of your kid’s mouth and it’s gone! #Thanks for hosting #BigFatLinky
Can relate to these a lot! Happy Birthday to Ted!
Happy Birthday Tedddy! I hope you are not in a mass of tissues from blubbing. Great list. It’s amazing what you learn in 12 months. Surviving on less sleep is so true…we just adapt eh? You’re a nice hubby…mine said me in labour “wasn’t that bad!”. Thanks love xx #bigfatlinky
Aw I love this – great list. Happy Birthday to Ted #bigfatlinky :-)
Fab list Al! I agree with the missing them when asleep! Even though waking up can be a pain, those middle of the night sleepy cuddles can be epic! I still secretly love them and zach is almost 3. Well done for making it through the first year! I can tell you it just gets more and more fun from here on in! She says sitting at the computer watching the giggly express song from Boj on the CBeebies website!! Thanks for hosting the #bigfatlinky
Happy birthday Ted! Great list, I kept nodding as I read it! It’s amazing how quickly we learn and even more amazing how quickly their grow! #bigfatlinky
Fantastic list love 44 been there for sure and love 55 exactly how I feel great post Al
Ha! I love this list – especially baby teeth are sharp & don’t wake up and ask how the night was lol Great list all soooo true!! #bigfatlinky
Sounds like a pretty steep learning curve – one that’s totally worth it though :) Happy birthday Ted! Thanks for hosting the #bigfatlinky

I’d be careful with #20. You don’t want to fall into the trap of always making that assumption!
I love these. Well done for making it through the first year and happy birthday Ted! #bigfatlinky
Such a great list. I think it was about 2 weeks before I managed to actually drink hot coffee with my first. I’d got the knack of it by the second time round though. Priorities. #BigFatLinky
What a brilliant post! I really enjoyed reading this. I loved the aiming straight while holding the baby and so many of the things you wrote are true and funny! A brilliant post

Hi, love the post, so many brilliant observations and lessons learnt !
I thought I’d just quickly pick out some favourites but actually it was so hard to choose any that I have read and re read the list so many times.
In the end I think the 3 that I would pick out to pass on to any first time parents would be
12. Everything is temporary, just phases that will pass (usually just in time to save your sanity…..but sometimes only just in time lol)
18. Your instincts are usually right so trust them – The ability to do this comes with experience and can be a very scary thing to do, but its ok.
21. Its ok to ask for help. I think this is so important as babies are seriously complicated, confusing things and every little bit of help you can get will make a big difference.
What we really need is a time machine to fast forward us to the baby’s first birthday so we can see that we do ok in the end :-) I think I might be able to make one with toilet roll inners, tin foil and the TV remote (if I can get it from the kids) x

Brillant post. Happy Birthday Ted! #bigfatlinky
Ah 55 gets me – yes , yes yes #bigfatlinky
It’s amazing just how much you learn in the first year of parenthood… You’ll be amazed about what you learn in year two!! Happy birthday Ted! #BigFatLinky
Great list. As someone who has stepped on more than my fair share of brightly coloured toys, #58 is my favorite. #bigfatlinky
These are great! Difficult to pick favourites out of all of those but photo’s, advertising and plastic crap are good ones.
Great list. So many rang a bell with me and some just made me giggle because they are sooo true. Empathy for other parents is my favourite. #bigfatlinky
What a great list from a dads perspective! Most of these I relate to though!

Great blog post! I look forward to mastering these skills next year when our little Hulk arrives! :)
The remote this is SO true. It has to be the buttons, my boy loves buttons.
