9 ways to entertain your brood on a budget these holidays

Don't miss a thing

Days Out PT

We’re in the midst of summer 2015 and that age old issue of how to keep the kids occupied during the holiday has resurfaced.

Well fear not!

We’ve done some digging here at Different Money to help you entertain like Mary Poppins on a shoestring budget.

Here are our top 9 child (and budget) friendly day’s out in London…

More London Free Festival on the Southbank

  • Until Thursday 24th September 2015
  • Free Admission

From live music events, theatre performances and free screenings of classic films such as Ghostbusters, the More London Free Festival has received 5 stars from critics and visitors alike. Enjoy a bite to eat from the venues pop-up restaurants and prepare for a day of varied entertainment.

Get there early to avoid disappointment and BYO cushion!

Kew Gardens

  • Open daily from 10am
  • Price: £15 adult, £3.50 for children (free admission for 0-3)
  • Get 2 For 1 on adult tickets this summer with a voucher code from National Rail

Get close to nature with the family this summer at Kew Gardens. Explore the world-renowned botanic gardens and check out some of the specials, including cocktails at the ‘Full of Spice Summer Festival’ (one for the grown-ups who’ve nabbed a babysitter) and Kew the movies – an outdoor cinema.

The Natural History Museum

  • Open daily 10.00-17.50
  • Free admission

The Natural History Museum is one of my favourite places to take kids during the summer holidays. Educational, exciting and FREE, some of the best upcoming events for 2015 include the Butterfly Exhibition, Coral Reefs: Secret Cities of the Sea and Family Explorer Backpacks.

Fab London Walking Tours

Hackney City Farm

  • Open weekends
  • Free admission

Hackney City Farm has become a fashionable weekend spot with its quirky café and adjacent farm, thriving with friendly animals, a pottery studio and garden. Take the kids along for a day out in London with a ‘rural’ edge.

Camley Street Natural Park

  • Open 10am-5pm daily
  • Free admission

Continuing with the ‘green theme’, Camley Street Natural Park is a small but thriving park in the heart of Kings Cross. Pack your lunch and your bat and ball for a cheap but fantastic summer’s day out.

Diana, Princess of Wales Playground

This commemorative adventure playground is the highlight of Kensington Gardens for kids under 12. A pirate ship and tepee camp will keep your young ones busy while you enjoy the scenery. Tip; get there early to avoid the queues.

Fab suggestions there, we miss living in London but head back for long weekends sometimes with the kids, we used to live near Kew Gardens and always found it so relaxing there. Other favourites were the Science Museum, Richmond Park and city farms. Going to look up your suggestions when we next visit. Cheers :)
