Get close to nature with the family this summer at Kew Gardens. Explore the world-renowned botanic gardens and check out some of the specials, including cocktails at the ‘Full of Spice Summer Festival’ (one for the grown-ups who’ve nabbed a babysitter) and Kew the movies – an outdoor cinema.

The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is one of my favourite places to take kids during the summer holidays. Educational, exciting and FREE, some of the best upcoming events for 2015 include the Butterfly Exhibition, Coral Reefs: Secret Cities of the Sea and Family Explorer Backpacks.

Hackney City Farm

Hackney City Farm has become a fashionable weekend spot with its quirky café and adjacent farm, thriving with friendly animals, a pottery studio and garden. Take the kids along for a day out in London with a ‘rural’ edge.

Camley Street Natural Park

Continuing with the ‘green theme’, Camley Street Natural Park is a small but thriving park in the heart of Kings Cross. Pack your lunch and your bat and ball for a cheap but fantastic summer’s day out.

Diana, Princess of Wales Playground

• Check opening times
• Free admission

This commemorative adventure playground is the highlight of Kensington Gardens for kids under 12. A pirate ship and tepee camp will keep your young ones busy while you enjoy the scenery. Tip; get there early to avoid the queues.
