Book Advent Calendar – Part 1

Don't miss a thing

There is nothing I love more than time with Teddy and over the last 15 months we have found lots of activities that we love to do together. Activities that bring us closer and create special memories for us both. From before Ted was even born I would read to him. I’d read stories to him in ‘the bump’ in the hope he would grow to recognise my voice. After he was born I took on the role of bath time and the night time book before bed. It is something we have always loved to do together. As a teacher and a parent I strongly believe in the  significance and importance of instilling a love of reading in my children. I hope Ted grows up surrounded by books and enjoying them.

Book Advent

So to encourage this, we’re starting a newChristmas tradition this year. Rather than a chocolate advent calendar, we’ve got Ted a Christmas book for each day in the build up to Christmas. A book advent.

Each day, from 1st December, Ted will be choosing, unwrapping and reading a different book before bed. We will create special family time each evening to just be together, uninterrupted, to enjoy the chosen book each day.  We’ll be sharing this on our Instagram and Facebook pages, so if you want to keep up with all the different books and how Ted is enjoying them, make sure you’re following us.

We know how busy the run up to Christmas is though, so we’ve also listed the first selection of books below for you to look at.

We’ve found some really lovely books and I know what you’re thinking…£££! But we’ve found them at great prices. Often, you can find some amazing deals on Amazon & eBay and you can even find some free eBooks too. Remember though that the books do not have to be new. You could borrow them from the local library or source them from local charity shops or Christmas Fairs. The great thing is that any books you find can be used again next year too.

Take a look and join us on this advent journey.

Despite my two ‘babies’ being 21and 23 years old I still love to read your page. It brings back so many happy memories. I did a similar thing as your advent calendar with my kids when they were young – a new book each every year which means we have loads of lovely Christmas themed books at home still for the next generation but the best bit is that I still have to read ‘The night before Christmas ‘ and ‘Christmas at Exeter Street’ to them both on Christmas Eve. We all laugh but it has to be done. Happy Christmas to you and your beautiful family (Jen won’t remember me but I am Sam Marks cousin, she worked for my husband too )

This is one of our favourite traditions. Even though they have read all the books already, they enjoying opening a book each day and re-discovering them each year. A couple favourites is Madeline Christmas and Auntie Claus. Enjoy and thanking for sharing.
