Day of the Dad FINAL

Yesterday was The Dad Network’s first ever Day of the Dad event and it was brilliant! A huge success! We had dads travel in to central London from as far away as Doncaster and couldn’t be more appreciative of the efforts that people went to.

We gathered on the bridge of the mighty Tattershall castle which overlooked the London Eye and we were truly honoured that the RAF had arranged for the Red Arrows to do a fly over just for us! Thanks guys, it meant a lot and was a great way to celebrate dads.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to be joined by the guys from The Lullaby Trust, who were promoting their Beards for Babies campaign. (Hence my slightly dishevelled, dragged through a hedge backwards looking beard.) It was great to speak to them about the incredible work they do and I know they had a fantastic time meeting dads and dad bloggers alike.

The Tattershall put on a great spread for us. The food provided was simply delicious! Never have I enjoyed a finger buffet quite so much. The popcorn chicken was divine – it was like heaven in my mouth!

There were a few little competitions running, including Lego building & playing cards. The winners took home a £25 Etsy Voucher as well as some Lego sets as runner up prizes and the craftsmanship was of a very high standard! Lego wins the hearts of children all over the world, but also the hearts of dads! And we all like a bit of competition.

We welcomed a TV crew on board to cover the event. They interviewed a few of us about being a dad which was great to see. They were filming for a Father’s Day special on the Chrissy B show.

Above all though, without doubt, the highlight was simply meeting, chatting to and laughing with other dads. We were all different, with different backgrounds and approaches but being a dad was our common ground. I found it so valuable to feel like I wasn’t the only dad in the world navigating my way through fatherhood. I loved hearing about everyones families and the overwhelming sense of pride that came with the stories that were shared. These dads are all amazing!

I’d like to take a moment to thank our sponsors, Tommee Tippee and Ella’s Kitchen. Without these 2 fantastic brands, we wouldn’t have been able to have Day of the Dad. Thank you.

We also had some goodie bags to give out with some pretty good goodies in! Thanks to the following for donating:

Tommee Tippee Cups

Ella’s Kitchen Food

Discount Voucher for Dorothy & Theodore

All in all, Day of the Dad was a great day and I can’t wait for next year! In fact, let’s book it in now!

Saturday 11th June 2016!

Write it in your diary and we’ll be sending out some more details about it throughout the year.

Thank you to all the dads that supported us this year. Happy Father’s Day to you all.
