As a new parent, your biggest fear is likely to be your baby’s health and safety. Now parents can access cutting edge ‘pulse oximetry’ technology in their own home to track their baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels unobtrusively, while their baby sleeps.
Co-Founded by Father of 3, Kurt Workman, the Owlet Smart Sock is comfortably worn on your baby’s foot while they sleep. It then sends notifications via a Bluetooth base station to your smartphone, making it simple and easy to check if your baby is sleeping soundly. If your baby’s heart rate or oxygen levels deviate outside of
Kurt Workman was inspired to develop the Owlet Smart Sock as he and his wife prepared to start a family, knowing his wife carried a hereditary heart condition.
“Given the advancements in today’s technologies, I knew there had to be a better way to watch over our babies while they sleep,” he said.
We’ve partnered with Owlet on the week of their UK launch to get the Smart Sock into the homes of Dadsnet members to test out. Here’s what they thought:
Dad, Cory said, The app is really easy to set up and gives great readings, even lets you know if your baby is wiggling. The base unit has five different coloured lights, each with a specific purpose and each colour is different enough to prevent confusion. It will alert if the sock moves out of position or if it disconnects – although it seems to be able to receive a signal from a good distance.
He goes on to say, I think this is a great device, the sock itself didn’t disturb the baby at all and gives peace of mind that she was breathing and all ok. I’d recommend this to anyone.

Traditional baby monitors transmit sound or video from your baby’s nursery to the receiver. The Owlet Smart Sock 2 offers a little bit more in that it provides you with information that you wouldn’t necessarily be able to see or hear through a traditional monitor.
Dad of 1, Adam, says, I was looking forward to receiving our Owlet smart sock to try, as with our daughter we didn’t really get on with traditional baby monitors, would this be the answer for us? In short, yes it is.
I was a little unsure about the product when it arrived. I looked at the sock and thought this isn’t going to last long. How wrong was I? The Owlet Smart Sock 2 is brilliant! This is 10x better than our monitor, which you can only view the baby and hear when she’s unsettled.
